Coors(-Miller) Brewery

What do you do when you have heaps of time on your hands and don't want to convert your weak'nd Aussie dollars... I guess what any red-blooded Aussie does... find you closest local brewery that does free tours AND free beer!

So I did... Donald, Richard and I jumped in the Beamer and headed for Golden (1/2 way down the mountains to Denver)

And after finding a place to park the car, the Coor's Brewery provided a bus which gave us a brief tour of the town of Golden...
Before dropping us off in front of a very big vat
Which we then set off on a very brief, and very automated "Tour" that involved at least one interesting part of the factory ... Massive Kettles for various stages of the brewing process...
And then another interesting part was the cannery and packaging room. One room we did not get to tour was this one...
"Quality Control Laboratory" incase this photo comes out too small.
Intriguing because, though it was nice that we got free beer tasting as well, most Australians will find Coors produce a fine range of beer amongst 'American' beers, but after Australian beers they unfortunately are all too easily mistaken for 'light' beers which you are left trying to figure out if they remembered to add any flavour. But then that may just be for the Aussies and Kiwi's because Coor's was recently purchased by Miller (beer) to become Coor's Miller and this factory was pumping out the production of there beer at an astonishing rate (they even owned their own rail yard and trains, and this does not include the trucking fleet) so someone must be drinking it, in a big way!!! :)
This thing just amused me for no apparent reason... I guess its just for when one fire hose isn't enough to water a flower garden!!!
"Big Ring Cycles" ...I am not sure what they were going for here, perhaps this bike shop thought it would fullfill the niche servicing the big 'rings' of the ever increasing plus sized population! And that "Big Arsed Bikes" was already taken :)
This I had to take a photo of after having discovered Master Bait & Tackle, Beaver Liquors, Beaver Divers, Beaver Framing... so ofcoarse Pat's business also brought a smile to my lips!
Oh, yeah we also found "Bumble Bee" he had changed his 'rims' because he was sick of people like me recognising him. Currently he claimed to be out of work until Transformers 2 goes into production. But I believe it already is :) and I personally hope it is done aswell as the first one. If you have not seen it yet, it is spectacularly well done!
Below is a photo of of Richard, I and Mr Coors himself... then of coarse no Gas Station is complete without its very own dinosaur, which loves posing for the camera.
Above (above) is a land formation called a 'Butte' ...and above (below) is the Golden branch of my personal bank over here "Wells Fargo" And crossing the road is a dodgy looking character that entered through the front doors, and soon after emerged from the back of the bank carrying a whole bunch of cash he did not have when he walked in. This particular branch made Richard 'walk through' the "Drive Thru ATM's" ...I guess its very hard for some people over here to fathom the fact that not everyone owns a car!
So after 'beer' what do you do next... Donald, Richard and I just had to go out for breakfast ;D But I have to warn you about the New York perception of pizza... I personally think bread with tomato sauce and cheese heated up in an oven, is really just toasted bread with tomato sauce and cheese!
Oh! Beware Donald's spicy buffalo wings! Those serviettes Donald is reaching for was not to clean his fingers but to wipe the sweat from his brow :-D those things were rediculously HOT!
Oh and Katie... I have since identified that the local beer of choice up here in the mountains... And I think you will love this... is called "Fat Tyre" and unfortunately it almost lives up to its name... almost... if it were a USED Fat Tyre! ...Have you ever come across it? (I should have gotten you a photo, maybe later)
AND have I mentioned yet how much I hate what blogger does to the formatting!!! And I apologise - upon re-reading this entry I think I maybe sounding slightly jaded... which is far from it - what I love most is all the subtle differences between our cultures :D lov'em
